The Life of the Rev. John Jones of St. John's Newfoundland : giving an account of the work of God in that place : holograph, [1807].

Holograph manuscript of Rutton Morris's biographical account of the life of dissenting minister and founder of the Congregational Church in St. John's, Newfoundland, Rev. John Jones; along with an autobiographical account of Morris's own career, including his voyage from Bristol, England, to Newfoundland, the capture of his vessal by privateers, and his subsequent activities and adventures as a minister. Complete text from title page reads: "The life of the Rev. John Jones of St. John's Newfoundland giving an account of the rise and progress of the work of God in that place. Extracted from original letters written by Mr. Jones to the Rev. Saml. Greatheed. To which is added an account of the capture, re-capture and voyage out, of his successor, with some account of his occasional excursions, and of the introduction of the gospel and progress of the work of God in various parts of the island of Newfoundland. By Rutton Morris." Volume includes a foldout map of the Newfoundland coast, handcolored and mounted on linen.
